Brrrp ("the app") puts your privacy first. The app uses the camera to read your facial expression so you can turn off an alarm, but no face-related data is ever stored or sent anywhere. The app uses the network to send anonymous usage statistics, to download challenge content, and to show ads. None of it carries any facial data.
There is no sign-up and no account. This information is stored only on your device and is deleted entirely when you uninstall the app.
The app collects statistics that cannot identify you, in order to improve challenge difficulty and usability.
The anonymous installation identifier is a random value the app generates for itself. It does not identify you or your device, it disappears when you uninstall the app, and reinstalling produces a different value. It is unrelated to the Advertising ID or to any hardware identifier.
These statistics do not identify any individual and are never combined with face data. They are stored and processed by a third-party cloud service, Supabase Inc.
The app uses the network for three things only — sending the anonymous statistics described in section 4, downloading challenge content, and showing the ads described in section 5-1. None of it carries any facial data.
Challenge content (the list of expressions, their wording, and their artwork) is checked for updates when you open the app, and is only ever downloaded. Nothing about you is sent with that request — it receives, it does not send.
The content also ships inside the app, so alarms and challenges keep working with no internet at all. If a download fails, the app quietly falls back to the content it already has.
There are two kinds of ads.
Banner ads appear only on the Dashboard screen. There are no ads on the alarm screen or on the expression challenge (mission) screen — nothing should get in the way of turning an alarm off.
Rewarded ads play only when you tap "Watch an ad to unlock" yourself, to open a paid challenge. They never appear on their own, and everything else in the app works whether or not you watch one. Watch it through and that challenge unlocks; that fact is recorded on your device only (section 3).
Ads are served by Google AdMob, which uses an advertising identifier along with device and app information to select ads and measure their performance. That processing follows Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
The app does not sell personal information. It uses the two providers below, and neither receives any face data.
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase Inc. | Storing and processing anonymous statistics (as a processor) · serving challenge content | The six items in section 4. Nothing is sent when content is downloaded |
| Google AdMob | Banner ads on the Dashboard · rewarded ads for unlocking | Advertising identifier and other data needed to serve ads |
| Permission | Why it is used | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Reading your expression to dismiss the alarm | Used only while a challenge is running |
| Notifications | Showing the alarm screen and ongoing alarm notice | Without it, alarms are not displayed |
| Exact alarms | Firing the alarm at exactly the time you set | Core function of the app |
| Full-screen notifications | Showing the alarm over the lock screen | Without it, the alarm only makes sound |
| Foreground service | Keeping sound and vibration going while the alarm rings | Ends when the alarm ends |
| Run at boot | Re-registering alarms after a restart | Alarm data stays on the device |
| Internet | Sending anonymous statistics · showing ads | No face data |
| Ignore battery optimisation | Letting alarms ring in power-saving states | Optional — the app works if you decline |
You can change permissions at any time in Settings > Apps > Brrrp, and the app's Settings screen shows their current state with a shortcut to change them. If you decline camera access you cannot run expression challenges; in that case a skip control appears immediately on the alarm screen so you can still stop the alarm.
The app is not directed at children and does not collect personally identifying information from children.
Data stored on your device (alarms, wake-up records, badges, settings) is destroyed as soon as you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Anonymous statistics are retained, in a form that cannot identify anyone, solely for improving the service.
Face data and app settings exist only on your own device, so you have complete control: delete them in the app, or uninstall the app to remove them entirely. Anonymous statistics are not linked to any individual and therefore cannot be identified or deleted individually. For related enquiries, contact us at the address below.
If this policy changes, we will give notice through an app update and on this page, and we will update the effective date.
